Buyer Protection Policy
# Buyer Protection Policy
## Buyer Cancellation Fee
If the item matches its listing and the buyer cancels, refuses to complete the purchase without a qualifying issue, or fails to attend the agreed pickup, East Texas Price War may deduct 3.5% of the purchase price from the buyer's refund, up to a maximum of $9.99. No fee applies when the cancellation results from seller fault, a materially misrepresented item, an approved safety concern, or another qualifying issue under this policy.
## When the Buyer Cancellation Fee applies
- **Buyer changes their mind:** the fee applies.
- **Buyer refuses an accurately described item:** the fee applies after verification.
- **Buyer no-show:** the fee applies after the seller documents attendance.
## When no fee applies (full refund)
- The item is misrepresented, damaged, incomplete, counterfeit, unsafe, or unavailable.
- The seller no-shows.
- An approved safety concern exists.
- The cancellation is mutual.
- The seller cancels without a valid reason (the buyer receives a full refund; the seller is charged the cancellation fee instead).
## Disputes
If the parties disagree about responsibility, an admin reviews the evidence before any fee is retained.
## Seller cancellations
If a seller cancels without a valid reason, they are charged through the same cancellation process. The charge appears as an owed amount on their account which must be paid before initiating any further listings. If a seller with a due amount attempts to purchase an item as a buyer, that charge is added to the purchase and labeled "Prior Cancellation Charge," increasing the purchase amount.
## Seller fee on completed sales
Completed sales are subject to a 7% platform fee on the seller, capped at $99 per transaction. This is separate from the Buyer Cancellation Fee.
## Refund receipt
When a refund is issued, the buyer sees:
- Original payment
- Buyer Cancellation Fee (if any)
- Refund amount
- Cancellation reason
- Decision status
